Peer Counselors

WIC has PCs who are moms that have breastfed and want to help other moms succeed in nursing their babies, too. They want to help provide moms-to-be and new moms with information and encouragement. Peer counselors are here to encourage, educate, and connect with new moms, like you. Their main goal is to help you and your baby on this journey. PCs:

  • Help pregnant women get ready to breastfeed

  • Talk to mothers about their thoughts on breastfeeding

  • Help new mothers get breastfeeding off to a good start

  • Explain ways to prevent common breastfeeding problems

  • Talk to mothers about ways to solve common breastfeeding problems

  • Refer mothers to lactation specialists, health care providers, and other services

Breast Pump Loans

WIC offers free manual and electric breast pumps for moms with high-risk babies who must be separated from them, and for moms who are working and going to school. WIC can also help you receive a pump through medical or your private insurance. Ask your WIC counselor or call for help.
