At WIC of Merced and Mariposa Counties we want you to succeed at breastfeeding, this is why we provide our participants with the best tools and resources to be successful.
Lactation Support
WIC has Breastfeeding Peer Counselors and Lactation Consultants to help with your breastfeeding journey. Mothers may receive additional assistance at any of the WIC sites during appointments or call for a phone consultation.

Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Program (PCs)
WIC PCs who moms that have breastfed and want to help other moms succeed in nursing their babies, too. They provide information and encouragement. Peer counselors educate, and connect with new moms, usually over the phone but also in person. They will call you on regular intervals to help with:

Preparing to breastfeed

Talk about thoughts on breastfeeding

Help get breastfeeding off to a good start

Explain ways to prevent common breastfeeding problems

Talk about ways to solve common breastfeeding problems

Refer to lactation specialists or other community resources
Breast Pump Loans
WIC offers free manual hand pumps and rental electric breast pumps for moms with high-risk babies or other special circumstances. WIC can also help you order a pump through your insurance. Ask your WIC peer counselor or call and ask to speak to a peer counselor for help.
